USTA, ITA Recognize Vann for Support of Tennis

Sectional Winner of Campus & Community Outreach Award

SKILLMAN, N.J. — Michael Vann, who is in his seventh season as the head men's tennis coach at Goucher, was notified today by the United States Tennis Association and the Intercollegiate Tennis Association that he was selected as the sectional winner of the 2011 USTA/ITA Campus and Community Outreach Award.

The award is presented annually to recognize coaches on the collegiate level who provide a leadership role in increasing tennis participation throughout his or her community, both on and off campus.

Vann was chosen as the winner for the Mid-Atlantic section, which includes Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia. He is one of only three sectional winners who are currently coaching at a Division III institution.

"I'm delighted that the two organizations chose to recognize Coach Vann for his leadership role in promoting and organizing campus and community programming that encourages participation in the sport of tennis," commented Geoffrey M. Miller, Goucher's athletics director.

From the list of 13 sectional winners, the USTA Collegiate Varsity Committee selected Claire Pollard, head women's tennis coach at Northwestern, as the 2011 National USTA/ITA Campus and Community Outreach Award winner.
