Gophers Turn Back Attack by Small Colony of Hornets

Hoesman Improves to 8-6 at No. 1 Singles in 2012-13

TOWSON, Md. -- Goucher claimed a 6-3 victory over Shenandoah this afternoon, even though the Gophers were able to prevail in only one of the four contested singles matches.

With the Hornets (3-9) down to four available players, head coach Brendan Kincaid's netters were able to clinch the match by winning the two contested doubles matches. Those two points, along with the three the Gophers (4-10) picked up because Shenandoah was forced to default at No. 3 doubles and at both fifth and sixth singles, sewed up the non-conference victory.

Goucher's only win in a contested singles match was at No. 1 where Seth Hoesman (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) raised his record in singles play this season to 8-6 by knocking off Shenandoah's Michael Milanov 6-4, 6-4.

Hoesman and David Spivey (Cockeysville, Md./The Park School) ran their winning streak at No. 1 singles to three matches by topping Steven Baker and Milanov, 8-6.

At No. 2 doubles, Pat Murnin (Salt Lake City, Utah/East) and John Bescoby (San Marino, Calif./Maranatha) posted an 8-4 win over Zach O'Neal and Will Leach.
