First Doubles Once Again Successful, But Gophers Fall

Spivey/Hoesman Win Fourth Straight Together

TOWSON, Md. -- For the fifth straight match the Gophers opened with a victory at first doubles, but Goucher came up short against Catholic in today's mid-week conference match.

The team of Seth Hoesman (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) and David Spivey (Cockeysville, Md./The Park School) took care of Brian Bradley and Cassian Utrie 8-6 to give Goucher (4-11, 0-4 Landmark) the win at No. 1 doubles.

This is the fourth straight win for the pair and Goucher's fifth straight win at the top duo position. They are now 5-4 overall together.

Pat Murnin (Salt Lake City, Utah/East) and John Bescoby (San Marino, Calif./Maranatha) fought hard at second doubles, but ultimately fell 9-7 to Schuyler Hayward and Jason Quisberth.

Catholic (11-4, 4-1 Landmark) also took third doubles as Kyle Kramer and Joe Trinity bested Seth Manfield (Bethesda, Md./Emerson Prep) and Cody Nelson (Duanesburg, N.Y./Schalmont).

In singles action, Hoesman started off well against Bradley, taking the first set, but ultimately fell 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.

Catholic swept the remaining singles matches to cap the day with an 8-1 victory.
