Gophers Claim No. 1 Doubles in 7-2 Loss to Blue Jays

TOWSON, Md. — One of Goucher's wins came at No. 1 singles and the other at first doubles in today's 7-2 loss to Elizabethtown.

Seth Hoesman (Ellicott City, Md./Howard), a freshman who has played exclusively at No. 1 singles for head coach Brendan Kincaid in 2012-13, raised his record in singles play this season to 10-7 by knocking off Elizabethtown's Josh Riehl 6-3, 6-3.

The Gophers (5-12) earned a point at first doubles for the seventh consecutive match as Hoesman and junior captain David Spivey (Cockeysville, Md./The Park School) turned back Riehl and Eric Fritzges, 8-3.

The Blue Jays (11-1) dropped only three games in the remaining two doubles matches.

At No. 2 singles, Spivey bowed to Fritzges 6-3, 6-2.
