Hoesman Wins Again but Gophers Fall on Senior Day

Spivey/Bescoby Earn Win at No. 2 Doubles

TOWSON, Md. — Seth Hoesman (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) was victorious and, as a result, will become the first Goucher men's tennis player to finish a season with a winning singles record since the formation of the Lanmark Conference, but the Gophers fell to Susquehanna, 6-3, this afternoon.

Hoesman improved to 11-7 in singles play on the year, taking a 6-3, 7-5 victory at No. 1 singles for the Gophers (5-13, 1-5 Landmark) over Michael Hickey.

David Spivey (Cockeysville, Md./The Park School) still has a shot at finishing above .500 as he evened his record at 9-9 with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Garrett Lynn at second singles.

Despite those two wins for the Gophers, the Crusaders (6-11, 2-5 Landmark) swept the remaining singles matches to close out the victory.

For the first time in eight matches, Goucher suffered a loss at No. 1 doubles as Hoesman and
Pat Murnin (Salt Lake City, Utah/East) fell 9-8 (7-4) to Lynn and Hickey.

Spivey and John Bescoby (San Marino, Calif./Maranatha) took care of Mats Haaland and Jeremy Neville 8-4 at No. 2.

The Crusaders took No. 3 doubles as well as Kevin Schneider and Ian Endresen topped Seth Manfield (Bethesda, Md./Emerson Prep) and Cody Nelson (Duanesburg, N.Y./Schalmont) 8-3.

Before the contest, Goucher honored its two seniors, Manfield and Benjamin Snyder (Forest Hills, N.Y./Townsend Harris).
