Hoesman, Spivey Account for Goucher's Two Singles Wins
TOWSON, Md. — Seth Hoesman (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) and David Spivey (Cockeysville, Md./The Park School) accounted for Goucher's two wins in singles play and together they earned a point for the Gophers with a victory at first doubles, but head coach Brendan Kincaid's squad bowed to York, 6-3, this afternoon.
Despite Hoesman and Spivey's 8-1 triumph over Tyler Cheatham and Nathaniel Hoskins, the Spartans (5-1) were up 2-1 heading into the six singles matches. The Gophers (0-2) momentarily leveled the match at 2-2 when Cheatham was forced to retire from the No. 1 singles match, making Hoesman the victor.
Of the remaining five singles matches, however, only one went Goucher's way and that was at No. 2 where Spivey pinned a 7-6 (2), 6-2 setback on Eric Cooperman. Hoskins was a 6-0, 6-2 winner over Pat Murnin (Salt Lake City, Utah/East) at No. 3; Matt Rosenkrantz handled Richard Schuller (Merion Station, Pa./Hyde) at No. 4, winning 6-0, 6-0.
This was the final match of the fall for the Gophers.
