TOWSON, Md. – After winning both his singles and doubles matches against McDaniel last Friday, Goucher's Seth Hoesman (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) became the first Gopher in program history to be named the Landmark Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week.
The award is the latest in a series of accomplishments for Hoesman, who earned first-team all-conference honors in singles and doubles last season. The sophomore from Ellicott City was also named the conference Rookie of the Year in 2012-13.
Against McDaniel, Hoesman posted a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Brian Kron at No. 1 singles, and he teamed with David Spivey (Cockeysville, Md./The Park School) for an 8-3 win at the top doubles position. Hoesman has yet to lose a match in dual events this season, as he also picked up two points in the Gophers' season opener at York.
Goucher has now received six Player of the Week awards from the conference this fall, with Hoesman joining previous recipients Amanda Bercovici (women's tennis – two-time winner), Katherine Currier (women's cross country – two-time winner) and Ethan DeBandi (men's soccer).
This week's award was based on all matches played between Sept. 30 – Oct. 6. The men's tennis team returns to action tomorrow afternoon with a 3 p.m. home matchup against Penn St.-Harrisburg.
