TOWSON, Md. — Seth Hoesman (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) concluded an undefeated fall dual season with two more victories last Friday at McDaniel, and his accomplishment was recognized by the Landmark Conference this afternoon when he was named the Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week for September 29-October 5.
This is the third weekly honor for Hoesman during his two-plus years at Goucher. The junior was also recognized once apiece in the fall and spring last season.
On Friday, Hoesman teamed with John Bescoby (San Marino, Calif./Maranatha) at No. 1 doubles and came away with an 8-4 triumph over Satchel McCarthy and Philip Jorgensen, helping the Gophers jump out to a 2-1 lead going into the singles portion of play.
Hoesman then bested McCarthy 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1 singles to finish with a 3-0 dual record in both singles and doubles this fall. Goucher finished off the Green Terror by a 6-2 team score, and the Gophers will take a 2-1 record into the spring season.
Five Goucher athletes have now received Athlete of the Week recognition from the Landmark Conference this fall. Hoesman joins Joey Caracappa (Wesley Chapel, Fla./Saddlebrook Preparatory School), who earned the accolade on Sept. 22, to make men's tennis the only program with multiple award winners thus far in 2014-15.
