TOWSON, Md. — For the second week in a row, Goucher produced the Men's Tennis Player of the Week in the Landmark Conference for the seven-day period which ended Sunday.
The honoree for March 21-27 is junior Midori Fujitani (Tokyo, Japan/International School Bangkok), who won all three of his singles matches and one of his doubles matches during the week. His first singles match was at No. 3 against Stevenson's Conrad Ellis and his 6-1, 6-1 victory clinched a win for the Gophers, who rallied from being down 2-1 after doubles to defeat the Mustangs, 6-3.
Fujitani's other two wins in singles competition were 6-2, 6-1 over Alexander Cocolas from Susquehanna at No. 4 and 6-2, 6-3 over Drew Delengowski from Rutgers-Camden at No. 3.
Fujitani is now 10-2 in singles play in 2015-16. The only Goucher player with more singles wins is senior Seth Hoesman (Ellicott City, Md./Howard), who was the Landmark Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week for March 14-20.
In Saturday's 9-0 triumph over the Crusaders, in addition to his win at No. 4 singles, Fujitani was part of the sweep the Gophers pulled off in the doubles competition. He and Jack Hodges (London, England/Shrewsbury School) joined forces to down Nicholas Meale and Cocolas, 8-1, at No. 2.
