Sophomore Slade Dumas (Great Falls, Va.) of the men's tennis team went unbeaten in singles action over the weekend, as the Gophers moved to 3-0 in the Landmark Conference with victories over Scranton (5-4) and Drew (7-2) on the road.
For his efforts, Dumas was named the Goucher College Athlete of the Week for the period ending April 8 on Monday afternoon.
First on Saturday against Scranton, Dumas clinched a come-from-behind win for Goucher with a 6-3, 6-3 win in the number five spot of the singles line-up. He followed that up with a pair of victories in a win at Drew on Sunday, as he and partner junior Elliot Diehl (York, Pa.) collected an 8-0 win at number three doubles, then Dumas won again in straight sets (6-0, 6-1) at number four singles.
For the season, Dumas has been impressive in singles action for the Gophers, who are currently 16-3 for the season and ranked 17th in the Oracle/ITA Division III Atlantic South Regional Rankings. Overall, he is 17-3 in singles play, capturing nine of his last 10 singles matches. Dumas, who has won four in a row in singles, has also captured 12 doubles matches for the year, as well.
Dumas and the rest of the Goucher College men's tennis team returns to action on Saturday, as they host Juniata in a Landmark Conference home match. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
