BALTIMORE, Md. – Goucher College, the three-time defending Landmark Conference men's tennis champions, have been tabbed as the preseason favorite announced on Friday by the league.
The Gophers received six of the eight first place votes to finish with 66 points and six points ahead of Scranton (60 points), who received the final two first place votes to finish second in the poll. Juniata (44 points), Drew (33 points), Susquehanna (30 points), Catholic (19 points), Moravian (10 points) and Elizabethtown (10 points) rounded out the eight-team poll.
Seniors Elliot Diehl (York, Pa./York Suburban) and Josiah Meekins (Trenton, N.J./Princeton Day School), juniors Slade Dumas (Great Falls, Va./Dominion), a 2018 All-Landmark Conference second-team singles honoree Michael Herman (Prague, Czech Republic/Gymnasium Nova Porg) and Frankie Mullinix (Washington, D.C./The George School) and sophomore Tetsuya Ota (Wesley Chapel, Fla./Saddlebrook Prep), the 2018 Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year and first-team singles/doubles selection, all return to the team this season looking to win the program's fourth-straight league crown under first-year head coach Eric Spangler.
Goucher opens the spring portion of the schedule and the Spangler era at the Seagulls Open this weekend.
