BALTIMORE, Md. – Tetsuya Ota (Wesley Chapel, Fla./Saddlebrook Prep), a member of the Goucher College men's tennis team, has been named the Landmark Conference Player of the Week for the week of April 8-14. It is the third time in the last five weeks that he has earned the honor and fourth time in his career.
Ota went 3-0 in the week in singles including posting a three-set victory against nationally-ranked College of New Jersey on Sunday. The sophomore won his No. 1 singles matches against Catholic on Wednesday and Susquehanna on Saturday by a 6-1, 6-1 margin to help clinch bome court advantage in the conference semifinals. He then took a 4-6, 7-5, 6-0 victory against the Lions top player on Sunday. Ota and Michael Herman (Prague, Czech Republic/Gymnazium Nova Porg) posted 8-1 wins in the two conference wins this week and fell 8-5 against the College of New Jersey.
Ota has won eight-straight singles matches and is now 12-5 in singles action on the year including 6-0 in league play. The sophomore is 8-8 in doubles with a 7-8 mark with Herman and a 1-0 record with Josiah Meekins (Trenton, N.J./Princeton Day School). Ota is 30-13 in singles and 26-22 in doubles in his career.
Ota also earned the honor this season for the weeks of March 4-10 and April 25-31 while taking home the honor last year for the week of February 19-25, 2018.
Goucher wraps up Landmark Conference play at Juniata on Saturday. With a win, the Gophers will secure home court advantage throughout the postseason.
