EWING, N.J. – Slade Dumas (Great Falls, Va./Dominion) earned a win at No. 3 singles against No. 40 College of New Jersey in non-conference men's tennis action on Sunday.
Dumas lost the first set 6-1, but then recovered to earn a 6-4 win in the second set to force a third set where the senior edged the Lions No. 3 player Thomas Wright 11-9 to earn a singles victory against a nationally-ranked opponent. Dumas, who is now 3-1 on the year, has moved into a tie with Tim Hannigan (1997-01) for fourth place on the program's all-time career singles win list with 59 victories.
Michael Herman (Prague, Czech Republic/Gymnazium Nova Porg) took his No. 2 singles match to a second-set tiebreaker before falling 6-1, 7-6 (7-5). Coming off his big win against the No. 14 player in the country, Tetsuya Ota (Wesley Chapel, Fla./Saddlebrook Prep) fell 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 singles.
Brian Kane (Philadelphia, Pa./Friends Select) lost at No. 4 singles, 6-3, 6-1, Omosesan Adebamgbe (Philadelphia, Pa./Lower Merion) fell 6-3, 6-4 at No. 5 singles and Frankie Mullinix (Washington, D.C./The George School) dropped his No. 6 singles match, 6-4, 6-1.
Ota and Adebamgbe teamed up for the first time in a dual match after playing together in the fall and battled its No. 2 doubles match to an 8-6 loss. Herman and Mullinix fell 8-4 at No. 1 doubles and No. Dumas and Kane dropped an 8-3 match at No. 3 doubles.
The College of New Jersey won the match, 8-1
Goucher heads to Florida for four matches, starting on March 15 against St. Lawrence.
