BALTIMORE, Md. – Goucher College 2020 graduate Michael Herman, a four-year letter winner on the men's tennis team, has been named a full-time assistant coach for both the men's and women's tennis programs at Washington College (Md.).
Herman helped Goucher to three-straight Landmark Conference Men's Tennis Championship titles and left Goucher seventh in program history in doubles wins (44) and 11th in singles wins (41).
The Prague, Czech Republic native, was named the 2017 Co-Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year and earned all-conference second-team honors for singles and doubles. He was the recipient of the Goucher Athletics Departmental Neumann Award in 2020.
"I'm very excited to see Mike Herman take the assistant coach position at Washington College," said Goucher head coach Eric Spangler. "I've enjoyed each moment working with him on and off the tennis court - he's got an advanced knowledge for the game and is a natural on the court, so will be a huge positive for the program they have. Wish him the best, and look forward to competing against him, now from the sidelines!"
The Gophers went 2-1 against the Shoremen in Herman's first three years. He went 2-1 in doubles play against the Chestertown program. He teamed to win 8-6 with Frankie Mullinix (2018) and Tetsuya Ota (2019). He went 0-3 in singles play, including playing an epic match that ended with a 7-6, 5-7, 9-11 decision in his sophomore campaign.
