Each week in the fall we will name two Scholar-Athletes of the Week for their excellent work in the classroom. This week's featured athletes are tennis juniors Brian Kane (Philadelphia, Pa./Friends Select) and Anais Gill (Cambridge, England / Hills Road Sixth Form College)
Kane, a business management major, was named to the Landmark Conference Honor Roll last school year. During that year, he posted a 5-6 record in singles and went 2-2 in doubles play before the season was shorten by COVID-19. Kane was named Landmark Conference Athlete of the Week for his advancement to the B4 championship match at the ITA South Atlantic Regional Tournament in October 2019. In his freshman campaign, Kane finished the year 16-6 in singles and 4-1 in doubles play. Notably, he posted a 6-1, 6-0 win against Scranton in Landmark Conference Championship match on May 4 and notched a 6-0, 6-1 victory against Baruch in the NCAA Division III Championships first round on May 9.
Gill, who is majoring in business management and Spanish, also earned her way onto the Landmark Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll in 2019. She finished the 2019 fall season 5-3 in singles play and 3-1 in doubles before COVID-19 forced the cancellation of the 2020 spring season. On September 28-29, Gill posted a 3-1 record at the Goucher Invitational. In her freshman campaign, Gill made her collegiate debut with a 6-1, 6-1 win against Rutgers-Camden on September 16. She finished the year with a 13-7 singles record and 12-7 in doubles play. Gill earned the Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year and spots on the All-Landmark Conference first team for singles and second team for doubles.
