BALTIMORE, Md. – Goucher College and the Evelyn Dyke Schroedl are slated to appear on the national television program CBS Evening News on Wednesday evening. Please check your local listings, but the program will air at 6:30 p.m. on WJZ in Baltimore. Steve Baum, the Gophers women's tennis head coach, Eric Spangler, the Gophers men's tennis head coach, and Omosesan Adebamgbe (Philadelphia, Pa./Lower Merion), a junior on the men's tennis team, may also appear in the segment. The segment could be preempted and moved to another day if there is breaking national news.
During the segment, Schroedl will talk about the Tennis Center while Baum, Spangler and Adebamgbe played a doubles match with Schroedl for the segment.
Schroedl, a 1961 graduate of the college, made a donation possible for the Tennis Center named in her honor. The Tennis Center includes 12 state-of-the-art courts for the Goucher College men's and women's tennis teams and the surrounding community to use to play tennis.
The Tennis Center was scheduled to have its first collegiate match played in the spring before the cancellation of the season so when the men's and women's tennis teams return to action they will be playing their first match on the courts.
The Goucher men's tennis team is the four-time defending Landmark Conference champions (2016, 2017, 2018, 2019) while the women's tennis team advanced to postseason play in 2019 for the first time since 2013. Baum was a three-sport athlete for the Gophers and graduated in 2011.
