Dumas Captures Fourth Landmark Conference Men's Tennis Athlete Of The Week Honor
BALTIMORE, Md. – Slade Dumas (Great Falls, Va./Dominion), a member of the Goucher College men's tennis team, has been named the Landmark Conference Athlete of the Week for the week of March 29-April 4. It is his fourth weekly conference honor in his career.
Dumas won both of his matches against Susquehanna on Saturday, including giving Goucher the 5-4 win thanks to a 6-4, 6-2 win a No. 1 singles. Dumas started the afternoon with an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles with partner Omosesan Adebamgbe (Philadelphia, Pa./Lower Merion).
Dumas is now 61-20 in his singles career, and the 61 wins moved Dumas into a tie with Seth Hoesman (2011-16) for third place on the program's all-time career singles list. Next on the all-time list for Dumas are former teammates Jack Hodges (62, 2013-18) and Midori Futijani (64, 2012-17), who hold the Top-2 spots. The senior also improved to 16-0 in conference singles matches in his career.
The win against Susquehanna was the first match at the Evelyn Dyke Schroedl '62 Tennis Center. Dumas won the match clincher for the Gophers, and he also helped send off the old tennis courts in grand fashion when the Blue and Gold won its fourth-straight conference title on May 4, 2019. Dumas was named Most Valuable Player of the conference tournament that season and was named to the All-Landmark Conference second team for both singles and doubles in 2019.
It marks the third time in Dumas' career he has been named the Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week. He also took home the honor for the weeks of March 5-11, 2018, March 18-24, 2019, and March 2-8, 2020. The senior's last honor in 2020 was also the last week of competition before the shutdown, and Dumas now has won two of the last three weekly honors in the conference.
Goucher returns to action on Saturday against Elizabethtown. The match time is noon. Outside spectators are not permitted, but fans can view the competition at athletics.goucher.edu/mtenlive.
