TOWSON, Md. - The Goucher College men's tennis team took a pair of matches at the Schroedl Tennis Center Wednesday afternoon. The Gophers downed Catholic University 8-1 in a Landmark Conference matchup before sweeping McDaniel 9-0 in the nightcap.
- Goucher (8-6, 4-0 Landmark) swept doubles and took five of six singles matches over Catholic (3-5, 1-3).
- Omosesan Adebamgbe (Philadelphia, Pa./Lower Merion) and Brian Kane (Philadelphia, Pa./Friends Select) had the closest doubles win, winning 8-5 at No. 1.
- Kane also prevailed in a third-set pro set tiebreaker at first singles, prevailing 6-2, 4-6, 10-5.
- Calis Nguyen (Houston, Texas/School of the Woods) was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at No. 5, while Jackson Beam (Knightdale, N.C./Knightdale) was a 6-0, 6-1 victor at No. 6.
- Against McDaniel (1-3) the Gophers dropped just two games in doubles and five games in singles.
- Beam and Nguyen were 8-0 winners at No. 1 doubles.
- Angel Cerpa (El Paso, Texas/Americas) was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at No. 1, while Nguyen recorded his second straight set win of the day at No. 3.
- Ryan Wartenberg (Haddon Heights, N.J./Haddon Heights) and Zach Klein (Bethedsa, Md./Bullis) each did not drop a set en route to wins at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively.
- Goucher has won five of its last six matches.
- Nguyen improved his singles record to 13-4 and has won eight straight.
- Wartenberg has won four in a row in singles action.
- Adebamgbe and Kane have won five straight in doubles play.
- Goucher returns to action Saturday, traveling to Drew for a matchup of the two remaining unbeatens in Landmark Conference play. That match is set for a 1 pm start.
