Gophers Battle With Luther Wednesday

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Goucher College men's tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision to Luther College Wednesday evening at the USTA National Campus.

• Luther (7-6) took three close doubles victories over Goucher (1-6).
• At No. 2, Angel Cerpa (El Paso, Texas/Americas) and Tadeo Asprella (La Plata, Argentina / Instituto Jose Manuel Estrada) dropped a tiebreak, falling 8-7 (7-3).
• Theo Lucke (Ahlen, Germany / Städtisches Gymnasium Ahlen) and Gabe Naftoly (Newburyport, Mass./Berwick Academy) fell 8-6 at No. 3, while Jackson Beam (Knightdale, N.C./Knightdale) and Calis Nguyen (Houston, Texas/School of the Woods) lost 8-4 at No. 1.

• Nguyen and Asprella each dropped three set decisions.
• Nguyen forced a third set at No. 3 before falling 7-5, 6-7 (7-3), 10-2.
• At No. 5, Asprella took the first set 6-2 before dropiing the second and third sets 6-2, 10-4.

• Goucher wraps up its Orlando Spring Break trip Thursday, facing St. Lawrence in a 3 pm contest.
• The Gophers are back home Saturday, April 1 against Drew in a rematch of last season's Landmark Conference final.
