Gophers Take Down Colonels in Conference Spring Opener

KINGSTON, Pa. - Goucher College earned a 7-2 Landmark Conference men's tennis win over host Wilkes University on Saturday afternoon at TK Tennis Academy.
- The Gophers (5-7, 2-0 Landmark) swept the Colonels (3-3, 1-1) in doubles play.
- In No. 1 doubles, Gabe Naftoly and Calis Nguyen secured an 8-5 win.
- Angel Cerpa and Benedikt Rummel won 8-0 in No. 2 doubles.
- In the third doubles match, Jackson Beam and George King overcame their opponents 8-3.
- Naftoly edged out his competition in the No. 1 singles match, 6-0, 4-6, 10-8.
- In No. 4 singles, Cerpa did not let up a game, winning 6-0, 6-0.
- Rummel and Beam added to the Gophers score, both securing wins in the No. 5 and No. 6 matches.
- Unai Laguardia Alvarez fell in a third-set tiebreaker at No. 1 6-1, 2-6, 10-6.
- Tadeo Asprella fell in three sets at No. 3 3-6, 6-2, 11-9.
- Cerpa is 3-1 in his last four singles matches.
- Rummel is 3-1 in his singles matches of the spring season and won his third straight.
- Natfoly and Nguyen earned their sixth doubles win.
- Goucher and Wilkes last met on April 29, 2017, a 5-4 win for the Colonels.
- The Gophers travel to Scranton tomorrow in their next conference match up at 4pm.
- Goucher returns home on Wednesday, March 27th to host Catholic at 3:30pm.
