MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - In a battle of defending conference champions, 2024 United East champion Penn State Harrisburg edged 2024 Landmark Conference champion Goucher College 4-3 in non-conference men's tennis Wednesday afternoon at the Hoverter Tennis Complex.
Goucher (1-1) picked up the doubles point by winning two of three doubles matches. At No. 2, Benedikt Rummel and Jackson Beam prevailed 6-1, while Ethan Katz and George King were 6-1 winners at No. 3. Gabe Naftoly and Guilherme Moraes were edged 7-6 at No. 1.
Katz registered a 6-3, 6-1 win at No.4 singles, while Beam notched a 6-3, 6-3 triumph at No. 6.
At No. 1, Naftoly forced a third set before dropping a 7-5, 3-6, 7-5 decision. Moraes also went three sets at No. 5 before falling to his opponent 6-3, 2-6, 6-4.
Rummel battled before dropping his match at No. 2 6-4, 7-5, while King was downed 7-5, 6-3 at No. 3.
Wednesday's match wrapped up the fall season for the Gophers, who resume in February.
