Gophers Finish Messiah 7-0 in Spring Home Opener

TOWSON, Md. - The Goucher College Gophers hosted the Messiah University in the Spring Home Opener. The Gophers only let us one match in doubles, but still secured the doubles point.
- The Gophers fell 6-2 in the No. 1 doubles, recording the only loss of the evening.
- In the No. 2 doubles, George King and Guilherme Moraes finished 6-4, securing the doubles victory for the Gophers.
- Jackson Beam and Tadeo Asprella also finished 6-4 in the No. 3 doubles.
- In the No. 1 singles, Gabe Naftoly fought to a third set, but finished it off 6-1, 2-6, 6-0.
- Asprella earned the win in straight sets, holding his oppenent to only two game wins. (6-1, 6-1)
- Benedikt Rummel battled in the first set, 7-5, to then secure the win 6-1 in the second set.
- In the No. 4 singles, Moraes finished in straight sets as well, winning 6-1 and 6-3.
- King battled to a tie breaker to earn the No. 5 singles win, 7-6, 4-6, 10-3.
- The No. 6 singles match ended in a tie breaker set as well, Beam rallied back after dropping the first set to win 3-6, 7-6, 10-4.
- Rummel, Moraes, and Asprella all extend their singles victories to three in a row.
- The No. 2 and No. 3 doubles pairings secure their second victories of the season as a pair.
- The men travel to face Coppin St. on Sunday, March 9th at 2pm.
- They return home on March 22nd, to host Lycoming in the Landmark Conference matchup set to begin at 1pm in the first game of their doubles match.
