SELINSGROVE, PA - The Goucher College Gophers (3-3 overall, 1-0 conference) defeated the Riverhawks of Susquehanna University (6-3 overall, 1-2 conference) on Saturday afternoon, winning 6-1.
Goucher swept doubles with the No. 1 team consisting of Gabe Naftoly and Benedikt Rummel, finishing first. The pair beat the Riverhawks, 6-1. The No. 2 team of Ian Hewes and Tadeo Asprella won the match 6-1. The Gophers closed out doubles with No. 3 team Guilherme Moraes and George King winning 6-1.
No. 3 Asprella was the first to finish singles, winning 6-1, 6-1. No. 1 singles was the next match to conclude, with Naftoly defeating his opponent 6-2, 6-4. In the No. 4 singles match, Moraes capped his day with a 6-1, 6-1 finish. No. 3 singles went to a third set with Rummel falling in the first 6-3, but fighting back in the second and third set 6-2, 6-2 to secure the win. Carlo Cermeno Cortes swept the first set (6-0) and won the second set (6-3) in the No. 5 singles. The Gophers wrapped up the contest with No. 6 singles. Despite a hard-fought match, Lucas Lucena fell to Susquehanna (6-4, 6-2).
The Gophers have a quick turnaround, hosting Dickinson on Sunday, March 22nd at 1pm.
