Gophers Rally To Push Past Dickinson
BALTIMORE, MD - The Goucher College Gophers (4-3 overall, 1-0 conference) hosted the Dickinson College Devils (2-10 overall, 0-1 conference) on Sunday afternoon. With late key wins in singles, the men won the match 5-2.
Goucher won the doubles point, with the No.1 team consisting of Gabe Naftoly and Benedikt Rummel securing the first win, 6-3. The No. 2 pair of Tadeo Asprella and Ian Hewes finished quickly, winning 6-1. Guilherme Moraes and George King teamed up for the No. 3 doubles match. Moraes and King fell to Dickinson 6-3.
No. 3 Asprella was the first to finish singles, winning 6-1, 6-3. The next match to conclude was King in the No. 6 matchup, who defeated Dickinson 6-1, 6-1. No. 2 singles wrapped next with Rummel losing the first set 6-2 and coming up just short in the second set, 7-5. In No. 5 singles, Hewes won against Dickinson 7-6, 6-2. This win secured the fourth point for Goucher to ensure the win. The No. 4 singles match went back and forth with Moraes falling in the first set 6-7. He fought back in the second set to win 6-3. Mores took the match, winning in the tiebreaker 6-4. No. 1 Naftoly was the last to finish singles. He lost the first set, 6-3, but won the second set 7-5. In the third set, he lost in a nail-biter 7-6(11-9).
The Gophers return to action on Saturday, March 28th at 1pm to host Juniata in conference play for the ITA College Tennis Weekend.
