Gophers Win Midnight Match Against Juniata
BALTIMORE, MD - The Goucher College Gophers (6-3 overall, 2-0 conference) won 5-2 in a late match against the Eagles of Juniata College (5-3 overall, 0-1 conference) on Saturday night.
The Gophers swept doubles, earning the single point. The No. 1 doubles pair, Gabe Naftoly and Benedikt Rummel, won their match 6-3. The No. 2 team, consisting of Tadeo Asprella and Ian Hewes, defeated Juniata 6-3. The last doubles match was No. 3 pair Guilherme Moraes and George King, winning 6-2.
No. 1 singles got underway with Naftoly falling to the Eagles 6-3, 6-0. No. 2 Asprella lost his first set 6-3 but fought back to win his second set 6-0. He lost the third set tiebreaker 6-1. In No. 3 singles, Rummel won 6-1, 6-4. Moraes competed in No. 4 singles, winning 6-3, 6-0. In No. 5 singles, Hewes won his first set 6-3 but lost the second set 6-4. He won the tiebreaker 6-4. The final singles match was No. 6 singles with King winning in a tiebreaker. He lost his first set 6-3 but won the second 6-2. He swept in the tiebreaker, going 6-0.
The Gophers return to action on Sunday, March 29th at 1pm to face Elizabethtown.
