BALTIMORE, MD - The Goucher College Gophers (7-3 overall, 3-0 conference) hosted the Blue Jays of Elizabethtown College (3-5 overall, 0-5 conference) on Sunday afternoon, sweeping them 7-0.
The Gophers swept doubles, earning the point, with the No.1 team of Gabe Naftoly and Benedikt Rummel, defeating the Blue Jays 6-2. In No. 2 doubles, Tadeo Asprella and Ian Hewes won 6-2. The last match to conclude was No. 3 doubles. Guilherme Moraes and George King swept Elizabethtown 6-0.
In the No. 1 singles, Naftoly swept the Blue Jays 6-0, 6-0. Rummel won the No. 2 singles match, 6-1 in the first set and swept 6-0 in the second set. No. 3 singles saw Moraes sweep Elizabethtown 6-0 in the first set and win the second set 6-2. Carlo Cermeno Cortes took the court for the No. 4 singles and won his match 6-2, 6-1. Daniel Gigatti swept the Blue Jays in the first set of No. 5 singles, and he secured the point after winning the second set 6-1. The last match was No. 6 singles. Lucas Lucena won the first set 6-2 and swept the second set 6-0.
The Gophers return to the court on Wednesday, April 1st on the road against Catholic at 3:30pm.
