Gophers Fall on the Road at Shenandoah
WINCHESTER, VA - The Goucher College Gophers (6-5 overall, 3-1 conference) traveled to face the Hornets of Shenandoah University (8-4 overall, 2-1 conference) on Tuesday evening. The Gophers dropped the match 7-0.
The match started with the Hornets sweeping doubles. The No. 1 doubles team, consisting of Gabe Naftoly and Benedikt Rummel, lost to Shenandoah 6-2. The next to compete was Tadeo Asprella and Carlo Cermeno Cortes in No. 2 doubles. They fell to the Hornets 6-2. The final doubles match of the evening saw the No. 3 pair of Guilherme Moraes and George King take the court. Moraes and King lost 6-3.
In No.1 singles, Naftoly was swept in his first set, 6-0, and lost his second set, 6-1. Asprella was swept in the first set of No. 2 singles. He was defeated by the Hornets in his second set 6-1. Rummel lost in both of his sets to Shenandoah, 6-3 and 6-2 in the No 3 match. In No. 4 singles, Moraes fell to the Hornets, 6-2 and 6-1. No. 5 singles saw King take on the Hornets in a hard-fought match, where the first set came to the tiebreaker, which he dropped, 7-6(7-5), and the second set 7-5. The final match of the evening was No. 6 singles. Lucas Lucena lost to the Hornets 6-1 in both the first and second sets.
The Gophers return to action on the road against Moravian on Saturday, April 11th at 2pm. The team returns home on Sunday, April 12th at 12pm.
