Rummel and Naftoly Earn Wins Against Moravian
BETHLEHEM, PA - The Goucher College Gophers (6-6 overall, 3-2 conference) traveled to face the Greyhounds of Moravian University (5-8 overall, 3-0 conference). Despite key wins in the singles matches, the Gophers dropped the contest 5-2.
The match started with the Greyhounds winning the doubles point. No. 1 doubles pair Gabe Naftoly and Benedikt Rummel lost to Moravian 6-3. In No. 2 doubles, Tadeo Asprella and Ian Hewes lost to the Greyhounds 6-3. Doubles ended with the No. 3 team, consisting of George King and Guilherme Moraes, who were able to beat Moravian 6-4.
Naftoly took on Moravian in No. 1 singles. He won his match in straight sets 6-4, 6-3. In No. 2 singles, Asprella won the first set 6-4, but dropped the second set 6-3. He lost the third set to Moravian in a close match, 7-5. Rummel competed in No. 3 singles, winning the first set 6-3 and losing the second set 7-5. He beat the Greyhounds in the third set, 6-3. Moraes won the first set 6-2, but he lost the second and third sets in a close score, 7-5, in the No. 4 singles match. In No. 5 doubles, King lost both sets to Moravian, 6-4. The final match was No. 6 singles. Carlo Cermeno Cortes lost to the Greyhounds 6-1 in both sets.
The Gophers are back in action on Sunday, April 12th to take on Wilkes in a 12pm matchup at the Schroedl Tennis Center.
