Numerous Swept Sets Lead Gophers to 7-0 Win over Warriors
WILLIAMSPORT, PA - The Goucher College Gophers (8-6 overall, 4-2 conference) traveled to face Lycoming College Warriors (3-9 overall, 0-7 conference) on Wednesday afternoon in a conference match-up. Goucher swept Lycoming 7-0.
The match started off with the Gophers sweeping doubles. The No. 1 team, consisting of Gabe Naftoly and Tadeo Asprella beat Lycoming 6-2. No. 2 doubles saw Lucas Lucena and Ian Hewes win 6-2. The final team to compete was George King and Guilherme Moraes in No. 3 doubles. King and Moraes swept the Warriors 6-0.
The Gophers kept the momentum in singles, winning all six of their matches. Moraes beat Lycoming in No. 1 singles, sweeping both sets 6-0, 6-0. In No. 2 singles, King won his first set 6-1 and swept his second set 6-0. Hewes took on Lycoming in No. 3 singles. He swept the first set 6-0 and won the second 6-1. Carlo Cermeno Cortes saw the court in No. 4 singles, and Lucena took No. 5 singles; both beat their opponents in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. In No. 5 singles. The final match was No. 6 singles, which saw Daniel Gigatti sweep his first set 6-0 and win his second set 6-1.
The Gophers return home on Saturday, April 18th for a 1pm match against the University of Scranton. Goucher Men's Tennis will be honoring its seniors before warmups.
