Gophers Clinch First Round Playoff Victory Against Juniata
BALTIMORE, MD - The Goucher College Gophers (12-6 overall, 7-2 conference) hosted the Juniata College Eagles (10-7 overall, 4-5 conference) in the first round of the Landmark Conference playoffs. The Gophers secured the 4-0 win in straight points
The match started with the Gophers winning doubles. No. 2 doubles pair Tadeo Asprella and Ian Hewes won their match 6-2. In No. 3 doubles, George King and Guilherme Moraes defeated the Eagles 6-1. Due to the Gophers clinching the doubles point, the No. 1 team of Gabe Naftoly and Benedikt Rummel stopped their match with a score of 5-4.
The Gophers continued to dominate during singles. In the No. 1 singles, Naftoly won both sets 6-1. Asprella swept his first set 6-0, then won his second set 6-1 in the No. 2 singles matchup. In No. 3 singles, Rummel defeated Juniata in the first set 6-2. Then, he swept his second set 6-0. With three straight singles wins, the Gophers clinched four points, winning the match.
The Gophers will travel to take on the number two seed, Catholic University, in a 3pm match in the semifinals of the Landmark Conference Postseason.
