Gophers Score in 10 Events, Wind Up in Third Place
ANNVILLE, Pa. Will Evans (Baltimore, Md./Overlea), Zach Martin (Victor, N.Y./Victor Central) and Phelan Shea (Cambridge, Mass./Oliverian School) all broke school records while representing Goucher today at the Lebanon Valley Invitational.
Evans, Shea Break Indoor Records with First-Place Performances
ANNVILLE, Pa. — Will Evans (Baltimore,
Md./Overlea), Zach Martin (Victor, N.Y./Victor
Central) and Phelan Shea (Cambridge,
Mass./Oliverian School) all broke school records while
representing Goucher today at the Lebanon Valley Invitational.
For Evans, it was in the high jump where he took first place with an effort of 6-feet. For Shea, it was in the 300-meter dash where he was clocked at :40:07, also good for first place.
Evans also placed third in the 55-meter dash (:06.84) and was on Goucher's 4 x 400-meter relay team along with Steven Tenure (Sudbury, MA/Lincoln-Sudbury), Adam Scipione (Walpole, Mass./Walpole) and Scott Wenzler (Larchmont, N.Y./Mamaroneck) that placed third overall (3:53.27).
The indoor record Martin bettered was his own in the 3,000-meter run. The senior placed third in the event with his time of 9:36.89.
There was one other first-place performance for the Gophers: Chris Litz (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll) in the pole vault. The junior earned 10 points toward Goucher's team total by clearing 13-feet.
The Gophers scored points in 10 of the 15 events to finish in third place with 65 points. Catholic was just two points ahead in second place and York could only come up with 64 points and had to settle for fourth place.
The other events in which the Gophers came away with points were: the 500-meter run where Tenure placed third by running the second-fastest time in school history in the event (1:14.73), the mile run where Scipione placed fourth (4:53.44), the long jump where Wenzler placed fourth (20-feet, 1-inch), and the triple jump where Andrew Gethins (Yorktown, N.Y./Lakeland) was fifth (36-feet, 7.5-inches).
