Evans Crosses Finish Line First in 200-Meter Dash

Freshman Also Places Fifth in 55-Meter Dash, Sixth in High Jump


CARLISLE, Pa. — Goucher's Will Evans III (Baltimore, Md./Overlea) placed first in one event and in the top six in two others today at the DuCharme Invitational.

The freshman's first-place performance was in the 200-meter dash, which he completed in :24.15. He took fifth place in the 55-meter dash (:06.81) and sixth in the high jump (5-feet, 6-inches).

The Gophers had a second competitor in the high jump competition: Scott Wenzler (Larchmont, N.Y./Mamaroneck) placed seventh at 5-feet, 4-inches.

Chris Litz (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll) was one of three competitors who successfully cleared 14-feet in the pole vault competition, but based on the number of jumps, he placed third overall and second among those who are attached to a collegiate program.

Zach Martin (Victor, N.Y./Victor Central) broke the indoor school record in the 3,000-meter run with his time of 9:35.96, good for 11th place.

In the relay events, Goucher's top finish was fourth place in the 4 x 800 meters where Adam Scipione (Walpole, Mass./Walpole), Andrew Gethins (Yorktown, N.Y./Lakeland), Nick Manta (North Wales, Pa./Abington Friends School) and Martin turned in a combined time of 9:22.76. The Gophers took sixth place in the distance medley relay and eighth place in the 4 x 400 meters.

Goucher was in ninth place at the conclusion of the meet with a score of 33 points.
