Evans Takes First Place in 55 Dash, Third in 300 Meters
HAGERSTOWN, Md. — First-place performances by Joey Negreann (Denver, Colo./Cherry Creek) in the 3,000-meter run, Will Evans III (Baltimore, Md./Overlea) in the 55-meter dash and Doug Falk (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat Twp.) in the high jump helped Goucher finish in fourth place in the team scoring at today's Hagerstown Invitational.
The Gophers ended up with a team score of 98 points, which placed them behind Hood (128 points), Hagerstown Community (126) and McDaniel (106).
Negreann eclipsed his own indoor school record in the 3,000 meters with his winning time of 9:07.22.
Evans completed the 55 dash in 6.72 seconds; Falk cleared 6'0.75" to win the high jump competition, which drew a total of 10 entrants.
Troy Browne (Springdale, Md./C.H. Flowers) placed second in the 800-meter run with his time of 2:05.37 and Nick Manta (North Wales, Pa./Abington Friends School) was runner-up in the mile run (4:50.58).
Evans added a third-place finish in the 300-meter run (:39.10). Also placing third for Goucher in an individual event were Manuel Carranza (Silver Spring, Md./Wheaton) in the 400 meters (:54.25) and Lovell Kosh (Chester, Pa./Christiana) in the shot put (36'8.5").
Goucher's entry of Carranza, Zachary Byrum (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point), Joel Brandis (Portland, Ore./Grant) and Browne completed the 4 x 400-meter relay in 3:41.14, good for second place. In the distance medley, the foursome of Negreann, Byrum, Browne and Mark Egan (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) placed third with its time of 11:41.64.
