Gophers Compete at D-I Heavy Patriot Games

FAIRFAX, Va. — Goucher took part in the Patriot Games today, an event hosted by George Mason which included a field of 15 Division I opponents.

Zachary Byrum (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) registered the top finishes of the meet for the Gophers, who did not register a team score. The senior co-captain topped 20 competitors in the 200-meter dash, crossing the line in 24.61 for a 45th-place showing. Eli Schwartz (Berkeley, Calif./Berkeley) also competed in that race for Goucher, finishing in at 25.38 to place 58th.

Schwartz additionally ran in the 400 dash, recording a time of 56.91 to finish 47th. Byrum, meanwhile, also raced in the 60 dash, registering a time of 7.54 and placing 52nd.

Christian Ribeiro (Silver Spring, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) represented head coach John Caslin's Gophers in the throwing events. Ribeiro built on last week's personal-best toss in the shot put with a top throw of 7.36 meters (24'1 3/4"), and he had a top effort of 5.55 meters (18'2 1/2") in the weight throw.

The track & field program will next be in action at the Du Charme Invitational, hosted by Dickinson University on Saturday, Feb. 7.
