CARLISLE, Pa. — A top-eight finish from Zachary Byrum (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) in the 55-meter dash highlighted Goucher's day at the DuCharme Invitational this afternoon.
Byrum had the sixth-fastest qualifying time in the preliminaries, crossing the line in 6.95. He then earned three points for the Gophers with a seventh-place finish in the finals, completing the race in 7.03.
The senior co-captain had two additional top-15 showings at the meet. He placed 11th out of 28 competitors in the 200 dash, registering a time of 24.86. Byrum was also 14th in the 400 dash (55.50).
Eli Schwartz (Berkeley, Calif./Berkeley) added a pair of top 20 results for Goucher. He finished 17th in the 400 dash (56.19) and 19th in the 200 dash (25.57).
Messiah totaled 171 points to run away with first place in the final team standings. Host Dickinson followed with 139 points, while Eastern Mennonite earned 115 points to place third. The Gophers finished in a tie for 10th place with Dickinson's alumni team.
Goucher returns to action at the Susquehanna Invitational next Saturday at 10 a.m.
