SELINSGROVE, Pa. — Goucher closed out the regular season portion of its schedule at the Susquehanna Open this evening, competing at the site of next weekend's Landmark Indoor Championships.
Zachary Byrum (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) had a pair of strong performances for the Gophers. He took over a half-second off of his previous top time in the 400-meter dash, crossing the line in 54.89 to place 20th out of 36 total competitors. Eli Schwartz (Berkeley, Calif./Berkeley) followed in 27th place with a time of 57.16.
Byrum took another 0.34 off his top season result later on in the evening in the 200-meter dash, and he earned a top 15 finish for his efforts with a career-best time (24.27). He beat out 24 other runners in the event. One of those other competitors was Schwartz (24.98) who finished in a tie for 24th.
Elton Kativhu (Harare, Zimbabwe/St. Ignatius College), meanwhile, made his Goucher debut in the 60-meter dash, and he ran the 10th fastest race in team history. Kativhu crossed the line in 7.46, putting him in 15th place overall.
There was no team scoring at the event. The Gophers will return to Selinsgrove at 11 a.m. next Saturday to conclude the indoor portion of their track & field schedule.
