The 2016-2017 Goucher Men’s Indoor Track and Field team will look to improve on their 7th place finish in the Landmark Conference last year.
TOWSON, Md. – The 2016-2017 Goucher Men’s Indoor Track and Field team will look to improve on their 7th place finish in the Landmark Conference last year. This year’s team is very young and features 3 newcomers and a number of veterans who hope to propel the team up in the conference standings.
Head coach John Caslin enters his 15th season at the helm of the program. He is also the coach for the women’s indoor and outdoor track and field teams and the men’s and women’s cross country teams. He has coached a number of All-Academic athletes in all of his sports as well as 2 track and field Athletes of the Year and a Rookie of the Year when Goucher was a member of the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC). He was named twice as Coach of the Year in the CAC.
This year the Gophers will be led by junior sprinter Elton Kativhu and sophomore hurdler Miles Taylor. Taylor is the school record holder in the 60 and 100 meter hurdles. Key newcomers are freshmen Ogemdi Chukwu (hurdles, jumps), Javaunte Neumann (sprints, mid distance running) and Darby Bauer (throws).
Caslin says “The men’s team is very young, with no seniors on the roster! We may take our lumps early, but we have a very talented group of first year athletes, and certainly we except to improve and make a move in the Landmark upward in the Landmark standings.”
The Gophers open their season on Saturday, December 3 at 10am with an indoor meet at Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania.
