Litz Rules Pole Vault, Breaks School Record
GRANTHAM, Pa. Chris Litz (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll) became the first pole vaulter in the history of Goucher's outdoor track and field program to clear 14-feet and Zach Martin (Victor, N.Y./Victor Central) turned in the second-fastest time in program history in the 10,000-meter run today at the Messiah Invitational.
Martin Runs Second-Fastest 10K in Program History
GRANTHAM, Pa. — Chris Litz (Bel Air, Md./John
Carroll) became the first pole vaulter in the history of
Goucher's outdoor track and field program to clear 14-feet and
Zach Martin (Victor, N.Y./Victor Central) turned
in the second-fastest time in program history in the 10,000-meter
run today at the Messiah Invitational.
Litz bettered his own outdoor school record by eight inches by successfully clearing 14-feet, 7.25-inches today. He placed first in the event as runner-up Ryan Baird from Juniata went out at 13-feet, 7.25-inches.
Martin took fifth place in the 10K, completing the event in 34:29.68. The school record, set in 2001 by Jeff Olenick, is 32:09.30.
Will Evans III (Baltimore, Md./Overlea) placed fourth overall in the 200-meter dash (:23.06), Nick Manta (North Wales, Pa./Abington Friends School) was seventh in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (11:13.45), Steven Tenure (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury) was eighth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:01.32) and Andrew Gethins (Yorktown, N.Y./Lakeland) was eighth in the triple jump (36-feet, 1-inch).
In the team scoring, the Gophers finished 13th overall with a score of 24 points.
