Gophers Score Points in 10 Events, Place Fifth Overall

SELINSGROVE, Pa. — Goucher scored a total of 36 points in 10
events to finish in fifth place at the 2010 Landmark Conference
Outdoor Track & Field Championships, conducted this weekend in
Lopardo Stadium.
The highest finish by an individual representing Goucher was the third-place performance by Chris Litz (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll) in the pole vault. The junior tied his outdoor school record by successfully clearing 15-feet.
Between them, Will Evans III (Baltimore, Md./Overlea) and Zach Martin (Victor, N.Y./Victor Central) earned points for the Gophers in five separate events and each one placed as high as fourth in one event. Evans took fourth place in the 100-meter dash (:11.19), fifth place in the high jump (5-feet, 10-inches) and eighth place in the 200-meter dash (:23.24); Martin placed fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:27.32) and eighth in the 10,000-meter run (35:21.51).
Scott Wenzler (Larchmont, N.Y./Mamaroneck) nearly matched Evans' effort in the high jump as he made it over at 5-feet, 8-inches to finish in a three-way tie for sixth place. Wenzler also placed eighth overall in the long jump (19-feet, 8.75-inches).
Steven Tenure (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury) crossed the finish line in the 400-meter hurdles in :58.27, good for sixth place.
Goucher's entry in the 4 x 400-meter relay placed fourth with its time of 3:35.88. It was composed of Tenure, Wenzler, Owen Lehmer (Freeport, Maine/Freeport) and Phelan Shea (Cambridge, Mass./Oliverian School).
