GRANTHAM, Pa. –Goucher's Tade Ade-Turton (Ocean
City, Md./Parkside) set new school records in the 100- and
200-meter dashes today at the Messiah Invitational.
Ade-Turton was the third runner to cross the finish line in the 100, completing the event in :11.06, eclipsing the school record of :11.21 he established earlier in the day during the trials. He also became the first runner in the history of Goucher's track and field program to finish the 200 in under :23 seconds, doing it in :22.75, good for third place.
The top finish by a Goucher athlete was Chris Litz (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll) as runner-up in the pole vault competition. He tied the school record by successfully clearing 13-feet.
Steven Tenure (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury) placed third in the 400-meter hurdles, completing the event in :59.89. Adam Scipione (Walpole, Mass./Walpole) was fourth in the 800-meter run (2:09.21) and Scott Wenzler (Larchmont, N.Y./Mamaroneck) was fourth in the long jump (17-feet, 10.75-inches).
Zachary Martin (Victor, N.Y./Victor Central) crossed the finish line in 10:48.37 to capture fifth place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Charlie Rooney (Sea Bright, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) was sixth in the 400-meter run (:53.07) and Wenzler was eighth in the high jump (5-feet, 5.75-inches).
In the 4 x 400-meter relay, the Goucher entry of Ade-Turton, Wenzler, Scipione and Tenure placed fifth with its time of 3:40.61.
Goucher finished in seventh place in the final team standings with a score of 48 points.
