Tenure, Litz Set New School Records in 400 Hurdles, Pole Vault

TOWSON, Md. – Three school records were broken and another
was tied by athletes who represented Goucher at the 2009 Landmark
Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships which were
conducted this weekend at Gopher Stadium.
Steven Tenure (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury) set a new record in the 400-meter hurdles with his time of :57.84 and Chris Litz (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll) did the same in the pole vault by successfully clearing 13-feet, 11.25-inches. Both finished in third place in those events and, as a result, secured six points apiece toward Goucher's team total.
Charlie Rooney (Sea Bright, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) turned in the fastest time in the history of Goucher's track and field program in the 400-meter dash when he completed the event in :51.52 during the trials on Saturday. In Sunday's finals, he placed eighth overall with his time of :52.83, giving the Gophers another point in the team scoring.
Scott Wenzler (Larchmont, N.Y./Mamaroneck) tied the school record in the high jump by clearing 5-feet, 6-inches, which landed him in a three-way tie for seventh place. He also took sixth place in the long jump (19-feet, 6.25-inches) and contributed a total of four points to Goucher's total.
Tade Ade-Turton (Ocean City, Md./Parkside) scored points for the Gophers in a pair of individual events, picking up six for his third-place performance in the 100-meter dash (:11.19) and five for finishing in fourth place in the 200-meter dash (:23.08).
By placing sixth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:37.04, Zachary Martin (Victor, N.Y./Victor Central) earned three points.
Goucher's also gained three points from its entry of Tenure, Adam Scipione (Walpole, Mass./Walpole), Ade-Turton and Rooney in the 4 x 400-meter relay. The foursome took sixth place with its time of 3:37.31.
The Gophers, who finished in sixth place at the inaugural Landmark meet in 2008, moved up a spot this year to fifth place with a team score of 34 points.
