Litz, Pair of Freshmen Strike Gold at Goucher Classic
TOWSON, Md. — First-place performances by senior Chris Litz (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll) in the pole vault and freshmen Brian Gautier (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat Twp.) and Doug Falk (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat Twp.) in the 400-meter dash and high jump, respectively, were the highlights for Goucher today as the Gophers finished in a tie for fifth place at the Goucher Track & Field Classic.
Gophers Earn 91 Points, Finish in Tie for Fifth with Gloucester County
TOWSON, Md. — First-place performances by senior Chris Litz (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll) in the pole vault and freshmen Brian Gautier (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat Twp.) and Doug Falk (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat Twp.) in the 400-meter dash and high jump, respectively, were the highlights for Goucher today as the Gophers finished in a tie for fifth place at the Goucher Track & Field Classic.
Litz successfully cleared 14-feet, while Chris DiGangi from Hood went out at 13-feet to finish as the runner-up. Gautier set a new outdoor school record with his winning time of :49.85 in the 400; Falk's effort of 6-feet, 4-inches that allowed him to win the high jump competition is also the top all-time performance in that event in the history of Goucher's outdoor track and field program.
Will Evans III (Baltimore, Md./Overlea) earned points for the Gophers in the two sprints, placing second overall in the 100-meter dash with his time of :11.33 and fourth in the 200-meter dash where he was clocked at :23.17.
Goucher also produced the runner-up in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and the third-place performer in the 5,000-meter run. The steeplechase was won by Tyler Miluski from Salisbury, but Nick Manta (North Wales, Pa./Abington Friends School) followed in second place with his time of 10:48.16. Joey Negreann (Denver, Colo./Cherry Creek) completed the 5000 in 16:03.19.
Andrew Gethins (Yorktown, N.Y./Lakeland) completed the steeplechase in 11:42.83, good for fourth place, which is where Manta finished in the 3,000 meters (10:00.00).
With the top eight finishers in each event earning points for his team, the Gophers scored in three additional individual events: Mark Renehan (Finksburg, Md./Westminster) placed fifth in the hammer throw (93-feet, 8-inches), Adam Scipione (Walpole, Mass./Walpole) was sixth in the 1,500 meters (4:13.63) and Lovell Kosh (Chester, Pa./Christiana) was seventh in the shot put (36-feet, 8.25-inches).
Goucher's entry consisting of Gautier, Falk, Litz and Evans placed second behind Ursinus in the 4 x 100-meter relay with its time of :45.13. In the 4 x 400-meter relay, Gautier, Falk, Scipione and Troy Browne (Springdale, Md./C.H. Flowers) ran a combined time of 3:34.43 to finish in third place.
Of the 11 teams which took part in the meet, Goucher wound up in a tie with Gloucester County for fifth place in the overall team scoring with 91 points.
