GRANTHAM, Pa. — Goucher had an individual and an entry in a relay place as high as sixth today at the Messiah Invitational.
The sixth-place finish in an individual event was by Will Evans III (Baltimore, Md./Overlea) in the 100-meter dash, which he completed in :11.61 to earn three points for the Gophers.
It was the 4 x 400-meter relay in which Goucher's entry of Brian Gautier (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat Twp.), Adam Scipione (Walpole, Mass./Walpole), Lovell Kosh (Chester, Pa./Christiana) and Troy Browne (Springdale, Md./C.H. Flowers) took sixth place and pick up another three points. The combined time of the four runners was 3:35.85.
The only other event in which the Gophers scored was the 4 x 100-meter relay where the unit of Gautier, Chris Litz (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll), Kosh and Evans posted a time of :46.39, good for eighth place.
With its final team score of seven points, Goucher wound up in 15th place.
Although they weren't able to earn points for the Gophers, Browne and Scipione recorded significant achievements while competing in the 800- and 1,500-meter runs, respectively. Browne crossed the finish line in the 800 in 2:02.15, the second-fastest time in that event in the history of Goucher's outdoor track and field program; Scipione's time of 4:11.08 in the 1500 ranks third all-time.
