Freshman Winds Up as Runner-Up in High Jump
HUNTINGDON, Pa. — Goucher's Doug Falk (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat Twp.) placed second in the high jump today at the 2011 Landmark Conference Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Knox Stadium.
Gophers Earn 36 Points, Finish in Tie with Catholic for Fifth Place
HUNTINGDON, Pa. — Goucher's Doug Falk (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat Twp.) placed second in the high jump today at the 2011 Landmark Conference Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Knox Stadium.
The freshman passed at the opening height (5'6") and then cleared 5'8" and 5'10" on his first attempts. The three remaining competitors all were successful at 6', but only Falk and Jeremy Hays from Juniata made it over when the bar was set at 6'2". Hays won the competition when he cleared 6'4" on his third and final try.
Similarly, only three of the seven entrants in the pole vault competition remained when Goucher's Chris Litz (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll) made his first attempt today and cleared 13'11 1/4". The senior passed at the next height and then missed all three attempts at 15' to finish in third place.
Freshmen Brian Gautier (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat Twp.) and Troy Browne (Springdale, Md./C.H. Flowers) both placed fourth in an individual event. For Gautier, it was in the 400-meter dash, which he completed in :51.62; for Browne, it was in the 800-meter run where he was clocked at 1:57.19 to become the first male runner in the history of Goucher's outdoor track and field program to finish the event in under two minutes.
Will Evans III (Baltimore, Md./Overlea) placed fifth in the 100-meter dash (:11.47).
Nick Manta (North Wales, Pa./Abington Friends School) completed the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:39.00, good for seventh place, which is also where Lovell Kosh (Chester, Pa./Christiana) finished in the shot put (39'5 3/4"). Adam Scipione (Walpole, Mass./Walpole) was eighth in the 800 (2:02.55).
Goucher's entry in the 4 x 100-meter relay consisting of Gautier, Litz, Kosh and Evans placed sixth with a combined time of :45.76.
The Gophers scored points in eight of the 20 events and finished in a tie with Catholic for fifth place with a team score of 36 points.
