GETTYSBURG, Pa. — Goucher's Hugh Geller (Devens, Mass./Francis W. Parker Charter Essential School) was the first runner to cross the finish line in the men's 5,000-meter run today at the 2014 Mason-Dixon Invitational.
Geller completed the event in 17:36.30, which is nearly 49 seconds faster than the time posted by the runner-up, Ryan Hipps from Frostburg State.
Although he placed second in the event, Isaac Jennings (Narberth, Pa./Harriton) became only the second male runner in the history of Goucher's track and field program to be clocked under two minutes in the 800 meters.
Jennings finished in 1:59.91 and behind only Gettysburg's Jeffrey Horvath (1:58.18). The school record in the 800 of 1:57.19 belongs to Troy Browne (Springdale, Md./C.H. Flowers) and he set it at the 2011 Landmark Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
The Gophers finished in sixth place in the team scoring with 22 points. Geller earned 10 points for his first-place performance in the 5000 and Jennings picked up eight in the 800. Mark Egan (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) and Zachary Byrum (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) accounted for the remaining four points: Egan took seventh place in the mile (4:44.44), good for two points, and Byrum collected a point for placing eighth in the 100-meter dash (:11.98) and another for placing eighth in the 200-meter dash (:23.56).
