Gophers Earn Points in Six Events at Gallaudet
WASHINGTON — Five Goucher competitors earned points for their top six showings at today’s Gallaudet Invitational, led by a third place result for Zachary Byrum in the 400 meter dash.
WASHINGTON — Five Goucher competitors earned points for their top six showings at today's Gallaudet Invitational, led by a third place result for Zachary Byrum (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) in the 400 meter dash.
Byrum also placed sixth in the 100 dash to account for seven of the 18 overall points for the Gophers, who finished fifth in the team standings. The senior co-captain completed the 400 dash in 56.03, and he crossed the line in 12.16 in the 100 dash.
Eli Schwartz (Berkeley, Calif./Berkeley) came in just behind Byrum in the 400, registering a time of 56.91 to add four points to Goucher's team score. Liam Lanahan (Corvallis, Ore./Crescent Valley) and Griffin Stein (Westport, Conn./Staples) earned the final two points on the track with their sixth place showings in the 1500 meter and 5000 meter runs, respectively.
The Gophers received five additional points from Christian Ribeiro (Silver Spring, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) in the field events. Ribeiro had a top throw of 19.52 meters in the discus which put him in fourth place, and he placed sixth in the hammer throw with a top toss of 22.81 meters.
Goucher will be back in action again next week for its only home meet of the 2015 outdoor season. The Goucher Track & Field Classic is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. next Saturday at Gopher Stadium.
