GETTYSBURG, Pa. — Elton Kativhu (Harare, Zimbabwe/St. Ignatius College) set a pair of personal bests for the second week in a row, and this time his efforts earned him a spot in the Goucher outdoor record books.
Kativhu crossed the line in the 100 meter dash in 11.20 at today's Mason-Dixon Invitational. That was 0.23 faster than his performance at last week's Messiah Invitational, it placed him fifth in today's event and it was the ninth-fastest showing in program history. Kativhu's mark also ranks him third among Landmark competitors so far this season.
That was one of four events in which the Gophers earned points this afternoon. Kativhu also accounted for the other individual top-eight showing after he finished eighth out 36 competitors in the 200 dash with a time of 23.20.
Goucher additionally scored in the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relays. Zachary Byrum (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point), Christian Ribeiro (Silver Spring, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase), Kativhu and Eli Schwartz (Berkeley, Calif./Berkeley) completed the 4x100 in 46.64, while Byrum, Kativhu, Schwartz and Liam Lanahan (Corvallis, Ore./Crescent Valley) took 3:42.40 to finish the 4x400. Both times were good enough for seventh place.
The Gophers ended the meet with a total of 14 points, putting them in a tie for 10th place overall.
The track & field team has one more regular season meet left on the schedule. Goucher will travel to Westminster, Md., on Tuesday to take part in the McDaniel Twilight Meet.
