Kativhu Qualifies for 100 Meter Dash Finals

SELINSGROVE, Pa. — Day one of the Landmark Outdoor Track & Field Championships began this morning at Susquehanna, with Goucher's Elton Kativhu (Harare, Zimbabwe/St. Ignatius College) setting a new personal record and qualifying for Sunday's final in the 100-meter dash.
Kativhu crossed the line with the seventh-fastest qualifying time of 11.37, six-hundredths better than his previous top effort. He will join a field of eight in tomorrow afternoon's race, which is scheduled to begin at 12:50 p.m.
Zachary Byrum (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) also participated in the 100 dash preliminaries. He was the 12th-fastest finisher at 11.90. Kativhu (23.72) and Byrum (24.05) placed 14th and 15th, respectively in the 200 dash prelims.
The only other Gopher participants this afternoon were in the field events. Max Adelstein (Tarzana, Calif./New Community Jewish) had a top throw of 9.28 meters (30'5 1/2") in the shot put, and Christian Ribeiro (Silver Spring, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) had a top discus effort of 25.05 meters (82'2").
The men's hammer throw will begin day two of the championships at 9 a.m. tomorrow morning.
