Gophers Record Several Strong Performances In First Indoor Meet

NEW YORK, NY- The Goucher College Gophers traveled to the Armory to compete at their first indoor meet this season, hosted by the College of New Jersey.
The Gophers recorded several strong performances in their season debut. Freshman Joel Lukoo had a top 10 finish in the 400 meters with a time of 53.24, while Leroy Smith finished in 18th (56.57), for an additional top 20 finish. In the distance races, the Gophers' Jayden Keels ran a time of 4:47.34 in the one-mile race to finish 15th. Askia Matin made his first appearance in the 60-meter prelims, running a 7.63. In the unseeded category, Ariel Fernandez made his debut in the 60-meter, with a time of 7.85.
Moving to the field events, Mark Martin led the way with two top 10 finishes, tying for third in the triple jump with a distance of 13.23 meters and seventh in the long jump with a distance of 6.32 meters. While Nehemiah Covington placed fourth in the shot put, throwing 13.70 meters. He also added a sixth-place finish in the weight throw with a distance of 11.76 meters. Rounding out the men, Smith added an eighth-place finish in the high jump with a height of 1.68 meters.
The Gophers return to action on January 17th, when they travel to the Prince George's Sport & Learning Complex to compete in the 2026 Cardinal Classic hosted by Landmark Conference member, Catholic University
