HUNT VALLEY, Md. - Goucher finished ahead of two Division I programs and in third place at today's Baltimore Metro Meet conducted at Oregon Ridge State Park.
Division III runners dominated the 5,000-meter race as 23 of the first 25 runners to cross the finish line were from Johns Hopkins, McDaniel or Goucher. The top performers for the Gophers were sophomore Zach Martin (Victor, NY/Victor Central) in 24th place and freshman Adam Scipione (Walpole, MA/Walpole) in 25th. Martin completed the race in 17:19 and Scipione in 17:22.
Patrick Brandon from Johns Hopkins was the individual champion. His winning time was 15:54.
A pair of freshman from Goucher placed 30th and 32nd, respectively: Charlie Rooney (Sea Bright, NJ/Christian Brothers Academy) in 30th with a time of 17:54 and Benjamin Groves (Whaleyville, MD/Stephen Decatur) two spots and just over seven seconds later.
Only Johns Hopkins with 19 points and McDaniel (56) fared better than Goucher in the final team scoring. The Gophers were third with 100 points, followed by Hood (116), Coppin St. (120) and Morgan St. (140).
